A great expired domain finding tool – How to use it
Now a days a lot of buzz is going around on link building and niche sites ranking. Especially link building through private blog networks. And indeed private blog networks (PBNs) are basically formed using expired domains.
Earlier I had done a post on finding high quality expired domains via expireddomains.net for any use and not specifically for building niche website on them or PBNs.
But as the time passed the importance of PBNs have increased like hell and now some of the internet marketers are even offering PBN courses for people who doesn’t know how to create their own.
On the other hand links are being sold by almost every internet marketing blog from their own PBNs to the people who want to rank high in SERPs.
The whole market of PBNs got hot and so the expired domains market got accelerated too. Therefore more players came into market for easing the process of finding expired domains.
But a few days ago, Google targeted and penalised many PBNs or we can say shady links that were built by people in order to rank niche sites.
Here are two contradicting views by two prominent internet marketers and I prefer the second one over the first one. You can surely have your own view.
- Spencer Haws from NichPursuits
- Glen Allsopp from ViperChill
If you do not PBNs useful, still you can have a look at the following use of DomCop as expired domains can also be used just more than creating private blog networks.
Heading over to the main topic of this post, which is an awesome domain finding tool that will surely save your precious time and will help you finding great expired domains. Now they are more cheaper than before because of Google’s actions. J
One of the player or website which I liked very much for finding expired domains or soon to be expiring domains is DomCop.
If you have a normal idea of how expireddomains.net works you will not have any difficulties in understanding DomCop.
Let me elaborate in a detailed way of how DomCop works.
How to use DomCop?
DomCop is a domain search engine that gathers data from various sources such as Google, Moz, Majestic SEO and other well-known sources.
After gathering data it is presented in a neat and clean tabular form. Here is a screen shot after your first login.
In DomCop there are three major lists for domains. They are:
- Expiring – These are the domains that are yet to expire and can be in Pending Delete, Pre-Release or in auctions.
- Expired – Here contains the expired domains that are available to buy.
- Archived – This is something new here. In archived domains the list contains the domains that have expired during the last year.
I think this is a major distinction from other domain search engines and this removes a big head ache on moving between different menus for finding different domains.
This segregation of domains into three basic categories makes your search refined and saves your time too.
So, after you’ve decided where to look in the one of the three lists mentioned above, you search for high end domains begin.
I generally like to see the Archived list because it displays domains that have expired within the last year. This is because older domains tend to be good as compared to newer domains in every term.
So after clicking on Archived button on the top you will get a list of domains that are expired in the last year.
Now comes the major part of chunk which will straight away strip out the unwanted domains and will only show the names in which you are really interested.
And that is Advanced Search.
Click on the Advanced tab and then click on Search.
This is just a half screen shot of the page. Here you can set the metrics as per your choice.
I have set them for PR and Age to 1. Although PR is no more relevant but I would like to keep it 1 because it removes scrap away and it is a Google metric after all.
Then there comes Moz metrics of which I only use DA and PA because they are most relevant. I keep them minimum 20 so best domains come on my hand.
At the right of Moz menu there is Majestic SEO menu. As per the research done by me, I have founded that domains with Citation Flow and Trust Flow higher than 15 are good to use either for a PBN or for building an entire new niche site upon it.
Then there is social menu which can be altered as per the needs. But when you set Google, Moz and Majestic SEO metrics then the social menu is of less importance.
Although social shares affect Google rankings but when we compare them to PR, PA, DA, CF and TF it is of less importance.
Another head down the page is Domain Industry. If you want to be really picky in finding domains you can use this menu.
It is a good way to find expired domains in related niche which always a good way to build PBN for your niche site.
Did you see the thick blue line on the right hand side of Domain Industry tab? It is the selection for the period for the domains expired.
The current selection is between 10 days and 2 years which means the domains that are expired between 10 days and 2 years will come up. You can set it up as per your choice.
Next is the Domain Source tab. This lists the source from where the domains are available. Most popular domain registrars are listed. If you want anyone of them or if you want some of them you can tick in there and choose them.
Down the Domain Source tab, there is Miscellaneous tab which is basically ranks given by popular online websites such as DMOZ, Similar WebRank, Majestic Million and Quantcast Million.
One more time there is a Miscellaneous tab which is actually a very useful tab. It has total 8 options which will narrow down your search from a million bad domains to some of the very good domains.
This is because you can choose whether to display Adult domains, spam domains or the domains that are indexed in Google. This is very essential when you are building a PBN.
And lastly there is Search tab. If you want to find a domain that starts, contains or ends with a specific keyword then just type it in there and select the suitable option.
For example, I want to find a domain that contains car. So I will type in the word car and select the option Contains and DomCop will search it for me.
This was the whole of Advanced Tab or we can say Advanced Features of DomCop.
If you do not want to dig in so deep and just want some basic metrics and factors for finding good expired domains, then there is a Simple tab.
The metrics presented in here are not as much as Advanced Search but are more than enough if you are trying to build a simple 10-15 domain PBN.
From PR, MR to TF and CF are all there to help you find a good domain. Just put in your desired settings and start away finding expired or soon to expiring domains.
I think Simple Search is a good one to start for those who do not want to go in large variety of options in Advanced Search.
Basically Simple Search is a mini version of Advanced Search and handy if you are in hurry.
And lastly in terms of searches there is a Common Search for people who just want to go with one or two metrics. They are the common set of metrics that people generally want to see.
If you are a newbie, I suggest you first go with Common Search.
For example if you want to search for domains having DA more than 30 and nothing else, you don’t need to go in Advanced or Simple Search for that. There is an option in Common Search for that to do it easily.
Select High Domain Authority and DomCop will automatically retrieve domains with DA more 30.
This is how the whole of DomCop works. I am using DomCop for finding high quality expired domains.
I am sure, you would find it useful for your future ventures.
In the next post, I will be doing a review of DomCop and will let you know the results. Also, a comparison between ExpiredDomains.net and DomCop will be posted in this month.
Did you find DomCop useful? Comment and surely let me know!
